NEW USS DULUTH PROPOSED

During September and October of 2018, the USS Duluth Crewmembers Association initiated a campaign to name another LPD after the City of Duluth, and the USS Duluth LPD-6.   This undertaking entailed recruiting assistance from the Mayor of Duluth, Minnesota State Senators and Representatives, and US Senators and Representatives.

Letters were compiled and submitted to the Secretary of the Navy for consideration of naming the next un-named LPD to be USS DULUTH.   The next LPD to be named will be LPD-32.   A contract has been signed with Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi.   USS Portland LPD-27 was recently commissioned and took 4 years to complete, from keel laying to commissioning.
